Leadership Message

Letter from the President - November 2019

Dear Members,

I am so excited to write you this month with some great news . I hope your year is going well as 2019 winds down. It is hard to believe that we are close to finishing our second decade in the 2000s. I remember lying down in the grass watching the clouds scurry by with my best friend as we calculated how old we would be at the turn of the century. At the time, it seems eons away and now it is almost 20 years in the past.

We had our board elections for AIA two weeks ago. It was wonderful that we had such great candidates step forward to run. It was a close election and I am pleased to announce our new, and returning, board members:

Secretary -  Jen Shepard
Directors -  Colleen Thompson, Nancy Lubin, Marni Reven
President -  Inga Wieser

Congratulations Jen, Colleen, Nancy, and Marni on your election to the board. I look forward to working with you over the next two years. Also, I would like to thank Ken Miller and John Hamende for answering the nominations call. They have graciously agreed to serve AIA in whatever way they could, so you will see their names popping up as volunteers. They have so much to offer. Thank you Ken and John!

Good News: Our conference had a significant impact on the many who attended.  We continue to receive heartwarming feedback and lots of comments that this was the best conference they’ve ever attended. Others have shared that they learned so much valuable information to use moving forward in their career. We also were delighted to learn that many have been so inspired and impressed with AIA as the leading organization that they want to work with us in various ways. We have already seen new memberships, new committee members, board position inquiries, and offers for collaborating with us to provide a resource for AIA and its members. More good news: As a result of what they experienced at the conference, Lab Aroma is giving AIA members a huge discount their services. They are waving the initial $320 sign up fee and reducing the annual fee to $80. To receive this benefit go the member’s section of our website https://www.alliance-aromatherapists.org under Member Information and select the “Member Benefits with Codes” tab. Check it out!  We are always working to bring you more benefits. Thank you Colleen of Lab Aroma for your generous discount.

We would like to thank Virginia Joy Musacchio of Stillpoint Aromatics for presenting our October webinar. She presented on different ways of selecting essential oils for each of the  chakras. Our November webinar is coming up on the 20th. This will be a special webinar with a panel of speakers: Marco Valussi, Melani Kovac, Robert Tisserand, and Timothy Miller on the Pros and Cons of Functional Groups Group Theory. You probably notice that there is a lot of discussion about functional groups on facebook and in the various web groups. We are honored to offer you this great panel of experts, each discussing their point of view on this topic and the usefulness of functional group theory as a teaching tool. Each year we open one of our webinars up to the general public, and this is the one so feel free to share this information with anyone interested.  Since three of our panelists are from Europe, we will have the live discussion at noon MST and a replay at 6:30 MST (our usual time). The link information will be emailed out the day of the webinar as always. Make sure to share it with your friends and encourage them to join AIA to have access to more webinars in the future.

More good news : We’ve partnered with the Franklin Health Research Foundation to raise support for their research study on the Intangibles of Essential Oil Use. We are committed to raising $25,000 and we are currently at 20% of our goal. Please consider donating to this valuable research project that will help to enlighten those we serve as practitioners. To donate, visit our website and open the “AIA Store” tab and then “Donate” or use this link to learn more:
