AIA Travel & Hotel Blog Post

Hello AIA Members!

With the world slowly opening up and returning to normal after the Covid 19 pandemic you are probably resuming your practice, looking for inspiration and excited to venture out into the world of conferences and networking again.

The AIA’s International conference takes place on 16 – 19 September at the Westin-Chicago North Shore Hotel. The focus of the conference will be hot topics in the aromatherapy community. Topics include blending, distillation, aromatherapy with specialist groups and conditions, publishing, chemistry, self-care, formulation, application, research, and marketing. It is a hybrid format meaning you can attend virtually or in person. When booking your place, you are reserving your spot, but you can change the virtual / in person option if needed and vice versa.

I will be attending virtually. As I write this the Covid lockdown restrictions are slowly being lifted in the United Kingdom, but long-haul travel is not advised and there’s testing and self-isolating to consider. However, in the US things are different and you have the opportunity to attend, network, meet old friends, make new friends, and have lots of fun over the 3 days of the conference.

The conference committee have received some enquiries about shared travel and room share which is the reason I am writing this post.

Travel:

Getting to Chicago - It is cheaper to fly into O’Hare International Airport (NOT Midway Airport as ground transportation is much farther and more expensive) and make sure you give the hotel’s full name and address Westin Chicago North Shore – 601 N. Milwaukee Ave., Wheeling, IL 60090 – so no one gets confused and taken to a hotel downtown.

Navigating from the Airport to the Hotel - There are a few options here:

Go Airport Express (www.airportexpress.com) – attendees should go to their website to make their own individual reservations.  They have a $2 coupon available in the discount section at the top right-hand corner of the home page – also note it’s cheaper to buy a roundtrip ticket than purchasing 2 one-way tickets.

Lyft and Uber are always options.
